Independently Organised Grassroots AI Initiative
In the spirit of knowledge sharing and community growth, the Deep Learning IndabaX Namibia is a locally organised, grassroots gathering that brings the ethos of the continental Deep Learning Indaba to Namibia. Our mission is to build a vibrant, inclusive community that strengthens machine learning, data science, and artificial intelligence capacity at a national level.
At an IndabaX Namibia event, state-of-the-art technical talks, practical workshops, and interactive panels combine to spark deep collaboration, bridge the gap between academia and industry, and empower the next generation of local tech leaders. While the central Deep Learning Indaba provides general guidance and structural alignment, individual IndabaX events are entirely self-organised by local champions, researchers, and volunteers to directly serve national strategic goals and priority frameworks.
The Continental Movement: Deep Learning Indaba
The Word "Indaba" is a Bantu phrase originating from Southern Africa, meaning a gathering or council of people. Founded in 2017, the Deep Learning Indaba is a continental movement devoted to a critical mission: Strengthening African Machine Learning. What began as a singular annual meeting has grown into a powerful network of African researchers, students, developers, and policymakers united to ensure that Africans are not just consumers of technology, but active shapers and owners of the global AI revolution.

The Deep Learning Indaba is the annual meeting of the African machine learning and AI community. Since 2017, our mission has been to Strengthen African AI, and to ensure that Africans are owners and shapers of the coming advances in AI. As an educational charity, our work focuses on learning, teaching, research, and the role work of peer learning and community building.
